Loan Management System in Kenya for Lenders in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu
LendPoint is a loan management system built in Kenya for SACCOs, microfinance institutions, digital lenders and independent lenders, from Nairobi and Mombasa to Kisumu, Nakuru and Eldoret. It runs the full loan lifecycle in Kenyan shillings, with M-Pesa built in. This page explains who regulates Kenyan lenders, what a typical loan looks like in KES, and how LendPoint fits lenders wherever they are.
Who regulates lending in Kenya (November 2026)
Kenyan lending is regulated by type of institution. The biggest recent change came on 29 September 2026, when CBK's Non-Deposit Taking Credit Providers Regulations (Legal Notice 191) replaced the 2022 Digital Credit Providers Regulations. Every lender that takes no deposits, online or offline, now needs CBK approval.
| Institution | Regulator | Main law |
|---|---|---|
| Banks | Central Bank of Kenya | Banking Act |
| Microfinance banks (deposit-taking) | Central Bank of Kenya | Microfinance Act, 2006 |
| Digital lenders, micro lenders, logbook and asset lenders, BNPL (no deposits) | Central Bank of Kenya: licence from KES 20 million capital, registration below that | CBK Act (as amended in 2024) and the Non-Deposit Taking Credit Providers Regulations, 2026 (Legal Notice 191) |
| Deposit-taking SACCOs | SASRA | Sacco Societies Act, 2008 |
| Other SACCOs | Commissioner for Co-operative Development | Co-operative Societies Act |
| All lenders, for personal data | Office of the Data Protection Commissioner | Data Protection Act, 2019. Lenders must register whatever their size. |
| Credit reference bureaus | Central Bank of Kenya | Licensed bureaus receive and share credit data |

What a KES 50,000 loan looks like
A borrower takes KES 50,000 over six monthly installments at 3% a month. The interest method makes a big difference:
| Method | Installments | Total interest | Total repaid |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flat rate | 6 × KES 9,833.33 | KES 9,000.00 | KES 59,000.00 |
| Reducing balance, equal principal | KES 9,833.33, falling to KES 8,583.35 | KES 5,250.00 | KES 55,250.00 |
| Reducing balance, equal installments | 6 × KES 9,229.88 | KES 5,379.25 | KES 55,379.25 |
LendPoint supports flat and reducing-balance interest and fixes the full schedule at approval. The borrower gets an SMS confirming the amount sent, the total repayment and the due date. Credit-only lenders must disclose the total cost and APR before lending. See flat rate vs reducing balance.

Frequently asked questions
Which regulator oversees my lending business in Kenya?
It depends on the institution. Banks and microfinance banks are licensed by the Central Bank of Kenya. Lenders that lend their own money without taking deposits must be licensed or registered by CBK under the 2026 Non-Deposit Taking Credit Providers Regulations. Deposit-taking SACCOs are supervised by SASRA, other SACCOs by the Commissioner for Co-operative Development, and every lender must comply with the Data Protection Act.
Can lenders anywhere in Kenya use LendPoint?
Yes. LendPoint runs in the cloud, so lenders in Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret or any other town use the same system through a browser, and their clients can use the portal, the LendPoint app or USSD.
Does LendPoint work in Kenyan shillings with M-Pesa?
Yes. Amounts, schedules and statements are in KES, approved loans can be sent to M-Pesa through the B2C API, and Paybill repayments are matched to loans automatically.
How much does a loan management system cost in Kenya?
LendPoint costs KES 5,000 a month (Starter) or KES 8,000 a month (Professional, multi-branch), plus a one-time KES 10,000 onboarding fee, with a 7-day free trial.
What does a KES 50,000 loan over six months cost?
At 3% a month, a flat rate charges KES 9,000 interest (six installments of KES 9,833.33), while a reducing balance with equal installments charges KES 5,379.25 (six installments of KES 9,229.88).
Can I move my existing loans into LendPoint?
Yes. Borrowers can be bulk-uploaded, and the onboarding team helps migrate active loans and balances, wherever in Kenya you are.
