The LendPoint App: A Mobile App for Your SACCO or Lender's Clients and Staff

The LendPoint App: A Mobile App for Your SACCO or Lender's Clients and Staff

Your clients already live on their phones. They want to check a balance, see when the next installment is due and pay with M-Pesa without calling your office. The LendPoint app gives SACCOs, microfinance institutions and lenders that use Lendpoint a mobile app for their clients and staff, live on Google Play, without building one themselves.

This post explains what the app does for clients and for staff, what it deliberately doesn't do, and how it fits alongside your web portal and USSD.

What the LendPoint app is, and isn't

The LendPoint app is a record-keeping app for clients and staff of financial institutions in Kenya that use Lendpoint. It covers account viewing and repayments.

  • LendPoint is not a lender. It doesn't lend money, offer, arrange, approve or advertise loans, or decide who gets credit. Clients can't apply for a loan in the app.
  • Your institution is the lender. You set loan terms, interest, fees and repayment schedules, keep the records, and remain responsible for the loan. Lending decisions are made by your institution, outside the app.
  • LendPoint doesn't hold or move money. Repayments go straight from the client's M-Pesa to your institution's own Paybill.

That separation matters. Your clients see your institution as their lender, and the app stays a servicing tool, not a lending channel.

What your clients can do

  • See their account: balance, repayment schedule and statement.
  • Repay with M-Pesa from their registered phone, confirming each payment with their own M-Pesa PIN.
  • Get payment confirmations, and reminders before an installment is due.

You set up each client's account, and they receive their login details by SMS.

What your staff can do

  • View your institution's client records, balances and the day's payments.
  • See each client's statement and repayment history.
  • Activate client logins.

Loan officers and managers can check a client's position in the field before a visit or a call, using the same records as head office.

Privacy by design

The app doesn't read contacts, SMS messages, call logs, photos or location, and it shows no advertising. That matters for your clients' trust, and for compliance. CBK's 2026 rules ban lenders from accessing borrowers' phone contacts to chase repayments, and require express consent for processing personal data. See data protection for lenders in Kenya and debt collection rules.

Clients can delete their app account at any time from lendpoint.africa/delete-account/. Your institution keeps the loan records it is required to retain.

App, portal and USSD: one set of records

USSDClients on feature phones, with no data needed

All three read the same records. A payment made in the app shows up immediately for staff on the web, and every repayment is matched to the right loan automatically. See how M-Pesa repayment automation works.

Why a client app reduces arrears

  • Fewer forgotten payments. Reminders before the due date, plus a one-tap way to pay.
  • Fewer disputes. Clients can see their own schedule and statement, so balances aren't a mystery.
  • Fewer calls to the office. "How much do I owe?" answers itself.

Getting the app for your institution

The LendPoint app is on Google Play. It's switched on by default for new institutions on Lendpoint, so your clients can download it, sign in with the details you send them, and start using it straight away. More details are on the LendPoint app page.
